Sarah and I (Gerald) were both born and raised in Louisiana (Geaux Tigers) and both graduated from Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies and Sarah holds a Bachelors Degree in Church Education. We are missionaries with World Outreach Ministries and have lived with our two children in Xela, Guatemala for over three years.
Our main ministry focus is discipleship. We work in two areas: prison ministry and a shelter for abused women and children. I work in a local state prison that houses just over 2000 men. In a patriarchal society-the biggest impact to changing families is through ministry to men. My main ministry is to isolated prisoners (isolated for gang affiliation or volatile behavior), teaching small group Bible studies and one-on-one discipleship.
Our second focus of ministry is to abused women and children. Isaiah 61:1-2 guides us as we “bring good news to the poor…bind up the brokenhearted…proclaim liberty to the captives and… comfort all who mourn.” As a family we minister in a local Women’s Shelter and work closely with a Guatemalan social worker, psychologist, teacher and care-givers to bring spiritual, mental, physical and emotional healing.
We lead weekly Bible studies as well as delivering donated bread and baked goods from a local bakery.
Being a part of both sides of the family equation allows us to minister to both men and women who in turn will go home and take on the responsibility of being “faithful men [and women] who will teach others also.”
